This week we had presentations on the indigenous feminism textbook. We presented on chapter 10, “a Spare Thought for Metis Women Elderhood”. I found this chapter very interesting as she used storytelling to show the issues among metis elders. I specifically was passionate about the lack of rights these elders grew up with, therefore leading to poverty and other social issues. In our brief research, my partner and I discovered that metis people only obtained indigenous rights in 2003. This means that most of the metis elders have gone most their lives without proper rights. This has had an obvious effect on the population of metis elders. According to our chapter, women metis elders have even more difficulties then male elders. When we take in account intersectionality, it makes sense that these groups have many issues in common but also separate struggles.              One main difference is the gender rol...

This week’s class topic was about Marxist and socialist feminists. One conversation that especially caught my interest was the discussion of Sex workers. In this debate we talked about if sex work should be legalized and if these women are being coerced to work in the sex industry. This sparked many thoughts for me.   (Allison schrager, 2018.https://qz.com/1310338/the-us-sex-worker-crackdown-hurts-the-most-vulnerable-women/ 9 )             In my opinion, sex work should be legalized. If sex work was legal, it would become a safer and more regularized profession. As we touched on in class, Sex work is considered the “oldest profession”. Sex work will always be around. Selling sex for money is illegal right now yet it still happens. The problems I see with sex work are things like sex trafficking, abuse and rape. With legalized sex work we could put in place legal regulations that prevent and have cons...

Feminism is recognizing people’s privileges and oppression to make everyone have equal opportunity. It comes in the form of social movements, political movements and ideologies. Feminism has orginated from white woman fighting for the right to autonomy and civil liberties. Feminism has transformed to be more accepting of different back grounds. Feminism is always changing to fit the needs of our society. We are currently in the third wave of feminism.         There are many different types of feminists that hold different views. This means that not all feminists think alike and agree on all social or political issues. Different feminists have different methods to bring on social change as well. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie describes feminism as “a man or a woman who says, yes, there’s a problem with gender as it is today and we must fix it, we must do better. All of us, women and men, must do better” (Adichie, 2014). Despite the dif...
