This week’s class topic was about Marxist and socialist feminists. One conversation that especially caught my interest was the discussion of Sex workers. In this debate we talked about if sex work should be legalized and if these women are being coerced to work in the sex industry. If sex work was legal, it would become a safer and more regularized profession. As we touched on in class, Sex work is considered the “oldest profession”. Sex work will always be around. Selling sex for money is illegal right now yet it still happens. The problems I see with sex work are things like sex trafficking, abuse and rape. Feminism is recognizing people’s privileges and oppression to make everyone have equal opportunity. It comes in the form of social movements, political movements and ideologies. Feminism has orginated from white woman fighting for the right to autonomy and civil liberties. Feminism has transformed to be more accepting of different back grounds. Feminism is always changing to fit the needs of our society.We are currently in the third wave of feminism.         There are many different types of feminists that hold different views. This means that not all feminists think alike and agree on all social or political issues. Different feminists have different methods to bring on social change as well. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie describes feminism as “a man or a woman who says, yes, there’s a problem with gender as it is today and we must fix it, we must do better.
